In My Mailbox #25

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren … and I end up adding a ton of books to my wishlist every week.

All my IMM posts can be found here!

This completely slipped my mind this weekend. I did get two books in the mail this week! Two from Bookmooch and although the do not match the rest of the series, I am happy to add these two books to my Sweep series by Cate Tiernan!

Sweep #11: Origins
by Cate Tiernan

The chronicle of the deadly Woodbane conspiracy?as told by one of Morgan?s own ancestors?has fallen into Hunter?s and Morgan?s hands. Hunter and Morgan explore the world of these powerful witches, to find a way to vanquish them at last. (goodreads.com)

For spacing purposes I am writing something here. Heh. Say, how’s it going, book bloggers? Have any of you read this series? What do you think of it? Let me know in comments!

Sweep #12: Eclipse
by Cate Tiernan

Morgan knows that a dark wave of destruction is on its way. Everyone she loves is in jeopardy. So Morgan, Hunter, and a surprising new ally join together to fight a battle that will test their powers more than any of them can imagine. In this struggle of good versus evil, bright magick versus dark, who will survive to tell the tale? (goodreads.com)

So now I have books 1 – 7, 9, 11-12 and 15. Seems that my book 8 is lost in the mail, which makes me very sad. It was sent by the same person who sent me these ones about a month earlier and I still do not have it. I am hoping it will show up at some point but I am not holding my breath. I am now out of points on bookmooch so I won’t be trying get any others. I still have to mail out the books from my contest in September! Why is postage so bloody expensive? Yuck. The 2 MRIs I paid for in October sort of wiped me out financially so there will be very few mailings coming from me. Perhaps in the new year I’ll get back into Bookmooch. (the odd part? It’s generally cheaper to send to the US that it is to ship within Canada! What the heck is up with that Canada Post??)

Sweep Book 9

Sweep 9: Strife
by Cate Tiernan

Morgan has been so involved in the world of magick that her parents are furious with her for neglecting school. And now the members of her coven are being persecuted. Morgan is falling to pieces. How can she find the strength she so desperately needs?

Crud, it’s been so long since I finished this one I can’t remember what happens! I read the entire series the first 2 days of July and then forgot to post my review of the 9th book. Bad, me!

I know there were some pretty big revelations in book 7 and I of course, missed the fall-out from that because I don’t have book 8 (argh!) and of course we’re still dealing with the revelations here in book 9.

And of  course this has just become a review of Suck. Just take it from me that this series is highly addictive and very enjoyable. The books are short (150 pages at most) and they are quick to read. I wish I had known about them when they first came out, but alas. I am happy to have discovered them now. However do you think my bookstores have any of these in stock? Heck no. So I shall continue to look for them until I have collected them all. (Cate Tiernan, I CHOOSE YOU!)

Sweep Book 7

Sweep 7: The Calling
by Cate Tiernan

Morgan and Hunter travel to New York City, Morgan to seek out information about her birth parents and Hunter to continue his quest to end the deadly Woodbane conspiracy. But in their search for answers, they find themselves in terrible danger.

Actually, there’s a whole group of friends off to New York – Morgan & Hunter, Bree & Robbie and Sky & Raven. They are staying in Bree’s father’s condo near Central Park. Mostly everyone goes off on their own, but the first night they end up at a club for witches and meet up with some interesting people.

Poor ol’ Morgan learns even more about her history and this is almost more shocking than finding out she was adopted. Personally, I’m surprised she’s handling all of this so well at the age of 17. I would have been a wreck if it were happening to me. (But at 17, no matter how hard I tried, I never discovered that I was secretly magical. All those hours of trying to light candles with my mind just gave me migraines. Sigh. At least I know for a fact that I am not adopted.)

Only one book left to go in my Used Bookshop Booty – and I have to miss all that happens in Book 8 since I didn’t get it. Argh!

Sweep Book 6

Sweep 6: Spellbound
by Cate Tiernan

Morgan and Hunter are growing closer, and Morgan is discovering more about witchcraft and her powers. She knows that a great battle is to come, but there is a more immediate threat. Morgan senses something emanating from her ex-boyfriend Cal’s old house, and she isn’t sure what it is. Hunter keeps having accidents, and it becomes obvious that someone is out to do him harm. Clearly, they both need to be on their guard. But is their enemy a human, or a witch?

Ohh this series is good! I just devoured one book after another. As Morgan and Hunter’s relationship starts to shift from wary to something more and the mysterious accidents… it’s just so exciting! I am trying really hard to find the rest of the books in the series because I need to know how everything plays out in the end!

There’s something fun about wondering who it is behind all the shenanigans. Always looking over your shoulder for… Cal? Selene? Bree? Raven? Who knows!  And the ending to this particular book surprised me. I didn’t ever think that what happened would have happened. I thought that plot point was going to stick around for a while.

Sweep Book 5

Sweep 5: Awakening
by Cate Tiernan

Witchcraft is part of Morgan in a way she can’t explain; it’s a part of who she is. She thought her boyfriend Cal was, too, that they were destined to be together. But Cal betrayed her in the worst way imaginable, by trying to give her up to the dark side.

Now, Morgan is learning all she can about magick so she can protect herself. She is studying with a witch named Hunter, who helped her fight Cal. Hunter and Morgan set off sparks when they are together, and Morgan realizes that what she had with Cal might not have been real. But there is still dark magick at work around them, and Hunter believes a friend of Morgan is to blame.

So at the end of book 4, Cal tried to burn Morgan alive to keep his mother from stealing her powers. Very healthy relationship there. Bree and Morgan’s other best friend, Robbie end up saving her from the burning pool house only to find that Cal and his mother have escaped and there is no trace of them in Widow’s Vale.

The extremely British and gruff Hunter has taken over leading their circle and Morgan can’t quite get a handle on her feelings for him. She tends to flit between hating him and desiring him. I have to say that gets a little old after a while. Also? For a “plain” girl, who just turned 17 and and had never had a boyfriend before Cal, she’s certainly lusted after by many older, powerful guys. First Cal (who is 19?) and then Hunter (19? 20?). It just seems strange. I hate books where every male longs for for female protagonist. This borders on irritating, but Tiernan never spends too much time on it at each instance. But come on now.

This book is full of dark magic(k) both by Cal, who is haunting Morgan and perhaps Selene has come back to try and strip Morgan’s power for herself. But at the same time, someone Morgan has trusted and felt safe with turns to dark magick to solve a very big problem. Morgan is hurt by this betrayal and confused as to how someone so good could fall prey to darkness like he did.

At the same time, Morgan is slowly being pulled into the darkness herself as she learns to use her powers and just how strong she really is. It’s only too easy to use the power to get what you want. Not to mention it feels good to be powerful. Will Morgan turn out to be evil like her Woodbane clan ancestry?
