yoshi is pretty [a teaser of sorts]

Finnish Lapphund, Dog, YoshiBear, Best of Winners

I did something pretty amazing the last weekend of August. Yoshi did some amazing things, too – like showing up and looking handsome. I have been meaning to blog about the entire experience, but since I came home I have been suffering from a week-plus migraine, and now a lovely pain flare up. I just haven’t had the energy to edit the photos I need to edit.

BUT! As you can see, my YoshiBear is a pretty Bear, and he got ribbons and wins at the dog show – both days! He took Best of Winners against the other Finnish Lapphunds.I did not show him myself, someone else did, but my boy did well!

This was a Mummy-Doggy solo-trip, too! Shawn and Sophie stayed home for the weekend.

I will post a longer, more detailed (with pictures!) note soon, I promise! I just wanted to let the internets know that my YoshiBear is a pretty boy.

We’ve got another dog show coming up this month, where Yoshi should be able to complete his Championship. He’s a show dog, he knows what to do. He flounces very well. He is such a pretty Finnish Lapphund! 😉

Stay tuned!

Finnish Lapphund Friday

Ok, so here’s the deal. There’s Cat Thursday out there, which I don’t really pay attention to (sorry, folks) and Melanie of The Reclusive Bibliophile started up Weimaraner Wednesday to sort of go along with that. Now, dog-related posts I will read because I’m a big dog sap. I jokingly said to Melanie on Twitter that I should do a Finnish Lapphund Friday post and she said “YES!”

Flash forward to today and here’s my Finnish Lapphund Friday post. This is NOT something I plan on doing regularly at all (mostly because it involves, well, planning) but I am doing at least one. I like to keep this blog as book-related as possible since I have a personal blog and all. But I did mention a few times how we just got ourselves a new pup and I have had some people ask to see photos.

As you may recall, my Annabelly passed away in February. Her loss still has a huge impact on our home,  but a good friend of mine, who happens to be the breeder I have adopted Annie and was gifted Jinx (as a wedding gift!) from, wanted to know if we’d like t to be the forever home for a just turned 1-year old Lappie that she had. We thought about it long and hard and finally decided that we did need a new soul in the house. So, we drove 12 hours to Michigan, I suffered from the worst food poisoning ever and we came home with Sophie. Here are some photos of both Jinx and Sophie since then (it is VERY hard to get a non-blurry photo, I tell you!)

Jinx happy to be home from Michigan.

Sophie sharing the couch with Jinx. As you can see, he’s really thrilled about it.

Playing with my husband on the deck. He was pantomiming fisticuffs at them.

Sophie telling Shawn what she thought of said fisticuff pantomime.

Silly Sophie.

In My Mailbox #39

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren … and I end up adding a ton of books to my wish list every week.

All my IMM posts can be found here!

I was going to do a sort of joke IMM this week because of what I received in the mail on Monday. Then I actually got a book in the mail so it’s a more official IMM post than it was going to be.

First, the book:

The Aristobrats
by Jennifer Solow

It’s all about the Attitude

Parker Bell knows the secret to beauty is pretty simple–wearing the right clothes isn’t as important as how you feel in them. Popularity is like that too. It’s all about attitude. You have to picture who you want to be and then just imagine that’s who you already are.

This year Parker and her three best friends have made their way to the top of the populadder at Wallingford Academy. And they’re ready to use their Aristobrat status to help spread positive vibes throughout the school. But when the girls are assigned to produce the seriously lame school webcast, their popularity plummets! Will this tragedy destroy the girls’ status? Or their friendship? Or both? (goodreads.com)

Now, this isn’t something I would normally read, but I was contacted by the author about it and hit it off so well with her she arranged for her publisher to find me a copy. I will admit that I am honestly curious about the book. If it’s written with as much humour as Jennifer writes in her messages I think I will enjoy it. Thanks to the author and Sourcebooks for t his book! (Also? It’s so shiny! Very pretty to look at. ;))

What I got on Monday made me do a little happy jiggle. I was expecting it but I didn’t think it would be so big or so  well put together.

“What the heck is that?” I know you are probably asking yourself. “A fish?!” And yes, it’s a fish. Specifically it is Felix the fish, the mascot of BigFish Games. He’s my one year anniversary gift for being a member to the game club. I’ve been a member on and off for about 5 years but never for a full year. This past May was my 1 year (consecutive) anniversary and I got this lovely guy this week!

He is now being enjoyed by Jinx.

Jinx was sooooooo excited when I opened the box because OMG!!!11!!!!!!11!!11 it’s a TOY! I tossed around the ideas of keeping him or letting Jinx have a nibble and my love for Jinx and his desperate enthusiasm for wanting the new toy won. So today, after taking my fish photos, I let Jinx carry him around the house all proudly.

In My Mailbox #36 – you mean mail can be delivered to your HOUSE?

Not a very exciting video, but it does star Billionaire Jinx Puppy with a cameo by Queen Annabelly.

Books received for review this week:

From Bell Bridge Books

From Penguin Group Canada

And most *cough* extraordinary *cough* of all – I am getting MAIL AT MY HOUSE again! You can read all about that excitement here if you are so inclined.

Out of My Pocket #24 / In My Mailbox #29

Due to my book buying addiction I started this  feature on my blog where I post about the book(s) I bought that week. Not something I plan on having every week – though it seems to be turning out that way.  So here’s what I bought this week!

Good golly! The books keep a-comin’! Not pictured above is the 3rd Percy Jackson novel, which is currently upstairs in my bedroom and I felt way too lazy to go get it just for the photo. I’m also feeling too lazy to copy and paste the summaries for each of the books. Sorry about that – it’s been a loooooong week back at work. I’m exhausted. Books on the left were bought this week and books on the right showed up in my mailbox (ok, I bought them as well, but they still made me pretty darn excited when I got home from work!)

Those 12 Shakespeare bookmarks are because I was $1.50 short on amazon for free shipping and I didn’t want to add another book since the shipping fees were less than any book I would have added so I found this bookmark booklet for a whopping $2! You can never have too many bookmarks I tell you.

What I am super excited about is that my copy of The 13 Curses arrived on Friday! Woohoo! It was “processing” for such a long time at The Book Depository that I wasn’t sure I was ever going to get it. I have been anxious for this book since I read the first book early last year.

And I had two dog-related things come in the mail as well. My Shutterfly calendar that we made finally arrived on Tuesday and now I have my gorgeous dogs showcased in my kitchen. I love my dogs. Also, this actually came the day before New Year’s but I finally put it up this week – it’s a Christmas gift from my husband which arrived late.

A street sign for my dogs! What better place to put it than over the frame that shows off all the Lappies I have had in my life. Annie and Jinx are the top and bottom dogs, while my first ever Finnish Lapphund is the glorious Kewpie-Doo in the middle. Sadly she’s no longer with us, but she’s always in our memories (who could forget a dog who thought everything was FOOD! Really?).

I love my dogs. I love my books. I do not let my dogs near my books since one of them especially (Annie) thinks that paper products were put on this earth for her gourmet enjoyment.
