A Circle of Souls

A Circle of Soulsby Preetham GrandhiI was so excited when Brooke from Brooke Reviews posted that I had won a copy of this book! Her review and author interview had me salivating at the thought of reading it. So how happy was I when the book showed up less than a week later - and signed by the author? Very! And it had a recipe card in it as well, for something that is way too spicy for me. ;)I read A Circle of Souls in one day - last Monday, in fact, while I was waiting at home for the car dealership to phone and let us know why our car wouldn't shift out of park and when we could get it back. They never phoned, my husband phoned them at dinner time and I finished this book.It took me a little while to get into the groove of the story, I thought it started off a little slow (even though there was death right at the start!) But there are a lot of characters in the book and each one was introduced in a different chapter, some of whom I wondered aloud about why did that chapter even apply? But it all comes together in the end.Once I fell into the groove, this was a fast-paced, thrilling story as they try to find a child murder, figure out why another child has been having dreams that leave clues to the murder and try to stop the murder from killing again. My only problem with the book was that it was rather predictable. I had the murder tagged the first time the character appeared in the book. I wasn't all that shocked to have my predictions come true. Other than that, I enjoyed the mystery of it and I especially liked the scenes with Naya, the girl who dreamed about the dead child and her dreams and interaction with the psychiatrist. I do think some scenes were unoriginally set up - like when the doctor thinks he knows where the kidnapped girl is at the end and realizes his phone is missing so he couldn't phone the FBI agent or the cops. Yeah, I didn't see that one coming. But, aside from the tiny irks I had with common plot devices I really did enjoy this book. I could not put it down. And the chapters were really short so it felt like I was reading faster than normal. haha! It's one of those "ok, I'll just read to the end of the next chapter and then take a break" only to realize the chapter was only 3 pages, so you decide to read another, then another and suddenly a couple of hours have gone by and you forgot to eat lunch. Oops.I would read more from this author should he decide to write another book. I love me some serial killers and mystery. :)
