Blood Bound
Blood Boundby Patricia BriggsThis is the second book in the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. I had borrowed (perhaps now own? Heh.) the first book, Moon Called from my father and found to my surprise that I liked the book. This series fell prey to my Judging The Book By Its Cover weakness and I didn't like the covers for any of the books in this series so I never gave it a chance.Silly me.In Blood Bound, Mercy is asked to help find and stop a lone vampire sorcerer who is on a killing spree. As a walker, Mercy seems to be the only one immune to this Big Bad's powers, whereas no other vampire or werewolf can fight it. After the vampire sorcerer has killed both vampires and weres and sent some back barely alive, Mercy agrees to help the vampires by getting rid of the threat. Now, with both books I had my issues with some of the characters and some of the interaction between them. Though not as in-your-face as other books, this series also has the "every male in the world wants the female protagonist with desperate desire" factor that I really can't stand. I have been able to ignore it for the most part, but I know it's there niggling in the back of my mind as I read through the pages. I get that the heroine is hot, ok, I get it. But I don't need every were, vamp and human drooling over her all the time. Get to the murder and mayhem! That's what I'm reading for! I love me some murder and mayhem! Throw in a serial killer and I'm yours, baby!On the bright side, there's no random super erotic S&M sex every three chapters. That's a plus for Urban Fantasy these days!I am happy to have discovered yet another series that I enjoy because it's always nice to have continuity when you go into a bookstore, on those days you just don't know what to get and - BAM! - you see a book in a series that you like and you can pick it up! Sort of like a security blanket. I have a few series/authors that are auto-buy for me and I will be adding this one to the list. I already know there's another paperback out there, Iron Kissed, and that I have at least two more in the series that I'll be able to get after that. Book security. I like that.Mercy Thompson series
