Yet another fantastic series has come to an end. I'll tell you, Internet, I'd never have given this series a second look if it weren't for the fact that the first book was gifted to me last Christmas with a note that it was fantastic. I went and bought the second book immediately upon finishing the first (thankfully, I read it close to the release date of book 2!)I don't give one hoot about angels. When it comes to the world of paranormaly type creatures, angels are even farther down the list than vampires are. Just because they have wings, doesn't make them magical faerie awesomness in my head. Maybe it's due to my Catholic upbringing, but I just couldn't care less about angels. So I don't pay attention to anything angel (except for Angel, the TV show and Whedonverse character. He's dreamy and Joss Whedon created him.)So, it was with an eye roll and a total expectation of disliking everything about Unearthly that I picked up the first book and SURPRISE! loved it.And now, a year later (three years for those of you who were on the ball with this series), this lovely series has come to an end and the final book was full of action, emotion, witty dialogue and everything you can want in a book to send it off with a bang.Not only that, but the story threw me for a loop and just when I thought things were going one way - BAM! total blindsidedness by something that just left me gaping at the book like a fool. AUTHOR! YOU ARE MEAN! Seriously. I wasn't expecting something to happen the way it did (not spoiling anything) and I was so caught off guard by it that I had to take a moment to recover before being able to read on. I was upset, shocked and just full of every emotion possible.And because I don't want to spoil anything, I will just focus on telling you all how wonderful this series is. It's got sharp dialogue, humour, action, great characters, tangible emotion at times and is very well-paced. The angel aspect of the story didn't bother me one bit, it felt like it was just part of the story and not the ENTIRE story - if that makes sense? Yes, there is a bit of a love-triangle, but again, it's just one part of many parts of the story and you're not bashed over the head with it like you are in many other novels. Clara is a delightful protagonist who is not only strong but flawed as well, making her a much more realistic character that you want to root for and not be jealous of.I managed to enjoy all three books in this series and I even ended up changing my mind about characters and plot-lines I wasn't so keen on in the first place. This final book even has some fun new characters that show up at Stanford and I was very happy to have them written into the story, however simple they were, because it added so much more to the feel of the book. The book was more real and less "all this is just happening because it moves the plot along" and the little side-characters and side-stories didn't stall the plot at all, it just added to the well-roundedness of the entire thing.None of that was phrased properly, but, whatever. You hopefully got the gist of it. ;) Heck, I could only write about this book with the addition of words I sort of made up myself to express how I feel. It's how I roll, yo.Even if you are anti-angel like I normally am, I'd still say you should try this series because it's fun and well-written. Also, the covers are super pretty.Unearthly series
