Fantasy in Death
Fantasy in Death (An Eve Dallas Novel)by J.D. Robb
It is the most puzzling case Eve Dallas has ever faced: the founder of the computer gaming giant U-Play is found decapitated in his locked, private playroom. And now Eve and her team are about to enter the next level of police work, in a world where fantasy is the ultimate seduction-and the price of defeat is death... (goodreads.com)
Well, you win some you lose some. With 30 books in a series you can't like them all and sadly I find this particular Eve Dallas mystery fell flat.At first I was very exited because the plot revolved around the gaming world. I'm not a hard core gamer, I'm more of a wannabe geek girl, but my husband is certainly an official gamer geek (and I say that with loads and heaps of affection!)What I love most about this series are the characters and the relationships they have. This particular instalment however had very few of the supporting characters and it was all Dallas and a bunch of techno talk that didn't really make sense. I had a brief moment at the start of the book where I said "Oh, X did it, but it can't be X because that would be SO OBVIOUS" and J.D. Robb books do not always go with the obvious. Boy was I wrong. I was so bloody disappointed in the ending! It's exactly what I thought it COULDN'T be at the start because it would be way too obvious and cheesy. But there it was, right at the end of the book, exactly what I thought it wasn't going to be as I read the first pages. ARGH!All Dallas and Roarke do is have sex and argue in this book. I'm tired of it. Unless all that arguing is supposed to be building up to some sort of split between them in the future? I don't know. But it was boring as hell and sort of irritating. There was very little Peabody, next to no Mavis (she really needs to be a plot point in an upcoming book, because I miss her terribly) and the "let's have Trina make-over Dallas" scenes are getting a little old.I was certainly not wowed by this 30th book in the In Death series. The mystery and murder were dull and unoriginal and the characters seemed out of character. I am hoping the next two books will pick up a little. Normally I rave about this series, but there's the odd book that doesn't click with me and this was one of them. Too bad.You can't win them all, right?(You can tell I didn't like it much because my review is much shorter than my list of books in the series! Ha!)In Death Series
