How I Found the Perfect Dress

How I Found the Perfect Dressby Maryrose WoodAfter being completely charmed by Why I Let my Hair Grow Out this past summer, I was eager to get my hands on a copy of Maryrose Wood's second novel. Both books take teenage life and mix it up with the magic of faeries and the charms of Ireland. Though the second book takes place in Connecticut, the main character Morgan, is still finding herself being stalked by the faerie realm.Narrated by Morgan with sarcasm and wit, you follow her as she tries to help her Irish love, Colin (who is in the US as part of a University exchange) escape from the nightly Faerie Balls he's been attending every night. He's been completely oblivious to his nightly parties however, as once he "wakes" up in the morning he remembers nothing and is only exhausted like he hasn't slept in weeks. At the same time as all this is going on, Morgan and her friends are planning for their Junior prom which is a big deal for most (Morgan does have other priorities, like saving Colin from the Fair Folk). Her efforts are amusing as always. Now I didn't quite like this book as much as the first. I think all the magic and mystery of Ireland helped add to the story in the first book. Having the same sort of story happen in the US just didn't seem to work as well. I have confirmed that I can't stand Morgan's family, not her sister or parents. I'm surprised this girl is as normal as she is what with the bratty, spoiled dysfunction in her family. But that's a family, I guess. And I suppose since it's narrated from the perspective of an almost-seventeen-year old, maybe that colours the descriptions a bit.But I stayed up and finished the book cover to cover last night. I even tried stopping at one point when my eyes were closing on their own close to midnight, but then I picked the book back up and continued reading until it was done. I was still charmed by the story and writing even if I didn't think this story was as good as the first. And heck, who doesn't love Garden Gnomes? Once those came into play I couldn't put the book down!
