I'll take what I can get

Look! Library books! And they are in English! I am so excited! Hence all these exclamation marks!!!Since I have Fridays off for most of the summer (one of the few perks of working at the University that I do) I phoned up my Mum and asked her if she'd like to scope out the library in my town this afternoon. I figured since my Mum had just retired she might like to do something with me, her favourite daughter, and in case there were English books to be found in the library I would let her take some out on my card.First things first when we walked in was scope out the building and see where, if any, the English books might be. We were rewarded with about 13 shelves of "English Adult Fiction" which included a moosh of Fiction, Mystery and Sci-Fi/Fantasy all in one big alphabetical bunch. Most of the books were old, I think the newest books were from when I was still working in the retail mall bookstore and that was seven years ago. Though there were the occasional newish books. (They had the latest Janet Evanovich that just came out in mass market, though it was hard cover/library binding.) None of the books were those that I would read though. I am not the biggest fan of most of those authors, but I didn't spend too long looking through the selection, I think I got to about H in the alphabet and the books were so crammed in on the 8 foot shelves that it was hard to take it all in and I didn't quite have the time I would have needed to look through it all to find that one diamond in the rough. Not to mention I have been so immersed in the world of YA that I didn't really have any grown-up book titles or authors on the brain.I headed over to find the English YA section and was happy to see it had some decent books, though saddened to see it was only one side of a two-sided shelf. Sigh. Not much there that I wouldn't go through in a really fast time. I had stopped at 3 books when I got my temporary card because I joked to my mother that I didn't want to go through everything in one shot (you can take 10 books out at a time here!) and that was before I realized it was only a one-sided shelf. Bah. Not a great selection, but at least they had books that I have looked at more than once in the store and yet never felt that need to buy them. Now at least I can try out the books and see if I like them or not. Like Ironside. I had borrowed the first two of that series from Monkey, but now that she's moved away to another province (again) I can't borrow books from her as often. So I rented it. Yay!I did ask about the possibility of making requests, but it doesn't sound like it would be very fast, so I don't know. I am not sure what to do, but I will try my best to get as much for free as I can. I am quickly running out of extra cash to spend on things that aren't 100% necessary. Sigh.
