In My Mailbox #9

Kristi (The Story Siren) and Alea (Pop Culture Junkie) started these weekly posts of awesome, and now many of us play along! I’m just thrilled if I get ONE book in my mailbox a month. These two could probably provide literature to the entire world just based on the contents of their mailboxes in a week. ;)So, generally I am not all that excited when I get something in the mail that I have ordered. Because I know it's coming and I paid for it. But this time - I ordered from Amazon UK on like, Sunday, and I got my order on Thursday in the same week! The only sad part is that the package was a little damaged so the books have some nicks, but are otherwise ok. So here's the 411 -The Thirteen Treasuresby Michelle Harrison

While visiting her grandmother's house, an old photograph leads Tanya to an unsolved mystery. Fifty years ago a girl vanished in the woods nearby - a girl Tanya's grandmother will not speak of. Fabian, the caretaker's son, is tormented by the girl's disappearance. His grandfather was the last person to see her alive, and has lived under suspicion ever since. Together, Tanya and Fabian decide to find the truth. But Tanya has her own secret: the ability to see fairies. And, after disturbing an intruder in the night, it emerges that someone else shares her ability ...The manor's sinister history is about to repeat itself ...  (Amazon.co.uk)

I had to order this one. Ever since the author started following me on twitter and I discovered her website and the book I HAD TO HAVE IT! Only do you think it's available in North America? Heck, no! And I have been waiting patiently, but I just broke down (due to emotions over my grandmother's passing) and suddenly found myself on the UK amazon doing currency conversions! And since I was getting this one, I might as well get...Knifeby R J Anderson

Once upon a time, a fairy is born. She lives in an old oak tree at the bottom of a garden with the rest of the fairy folk. Never has she known a time when life hasn't been hard, with many dangers and much adversity. But when she becomes the Hunter of the group and learns to do battle in the outside world, her adventures really take off...Don't read this book if you're expecting fairy dust - the last thing Knife is likely to wield is a magic wand... (Amazon.co.uk)

Why, you ask? When a perfectly good version of this book is about to be released in your own country in a couple of weeks? Well, I have to admit I love this cover art (drawn by Brian Froud! And I am a collector of his art). I love the title. I don't particularly like the cover for the US version. And so, I have supported a fellow Canadian by buying her book overseas. That's dedication right?Oddly it was cheapter to buy the UK version of this book from the UK than to get it through Amazon Canada. I did the conversions, it worked out better. This is even more of a reason why I need to move to Ireland. I like the covers of their books better over there. I would assume that Ireland also has UK covers? I don't think I have ever seen "Irish cover" anywhere.
