my first fish!
Last night I had my grandparents over for dinner. This was the first time they had been over for more than a few moments since we bought the house. It was also the first time they were here without my parents. Shawn ran around yesterday doing all our various errands (he's working today) and then we picked up the salmon at the fish place and then picked up my grandparents at their apartment.I am not a big cooker. I can bake, but when it comes to dinners and whatnot, I am hopeless. But I figured I could do salmon on the BBQ. My father had made it for me a few times when I had gone over to mooch a free meal off my parents when Shawn was working nights. It looked easy enough. It was (thank goodness!) even despite the malfunctioning of the stupid BBQ. We're going to have to look into that. Hmm.So I made salmon on the Barbie, mashed potatoes, peas and for Nana and I, cauliflower with white sauce. Yum. (Though I fear I over cooked the cauliflower and it was more like soup, but whatever.)I don't think I gave anyone food poisoning. Good stuff. My Poppop will be 95 on the 19th of this month. My Nana turns 90 in February. As of 2008 they will have known each other 70 years. SEVENTY YEARS! Can you even imagine?? It made me exceptionally happy to be able to have them over for dinner last night. It was a sense of pride or something, I don't know. I do know that I am STILL in a good mood about this today. I just feel so... proud I guess, that I had them over to a home that I own (well, co-own. ;)) and fed them a dinner I made. For everything they have done for me my entire life, this wasn't enough to thank them, but it made me feel good to be able to do this for them.Having people over for dinner is just something that makes me giddy. It's one of those grown-up things that I don't mind - as long as it was our decision to have the people over. Heh. You just show up? We won't be very happy.Anyhow, for my first salmon (on the BBQ) it was very good. I am quite proud of myself. Had I had more time I might have even made the dessert, as it happened we bought a pretty yummy coffee cake at the grocery store while we were out.Today? I have been a Cleaning Machine. I even washed down the BBQ (hoping that maybe that will fix the problem, but I don't think so...). Floors are washed, bathroom upstairs (mine ;)) is cleaned from top to bottom, dishes are washed and I have to start laundry soon, but dude! I am so tired! I have also just spent an hour going through old posts and turning off comments. Still have a ways to go, but gosh darnit I am so sick of all the spam I am getting! Grr!
