Out of My Pocket #14 - or I might have gone a little crazy, yo
Due to my book buying addiction I started this feature on my blog where I post about the book(s) I bought that week. Not something I plan on having every week – though it seems to be turning out that way. So here’s what I bought this week!
Previous OoMP posts can be found here!
It wasn't my plan to buy all of these books. It just happened. And it happened that I also had a credit card in my wallet. Oops. Or, rather, Oomps. Heh. But you see, I'm on vacation this coming week and I have an almost all-day bone scan coming up on Wednesday and I need books. Oh, and I really enjoyed the first Obernewtyn book and wanted the rest of the series and the store only had ONE of each of the remaining books in stock. I knew if I didn't get them NOW when I went back I would miss my chance at getting one I needed. So you know, it was destiny. Or something like that.
Justified!
*deep breath* Ok, here I go!
The Farseekers: The Obernewtyn Chronicles 2by Isobelle Carmody
In the two years since its takeover of Obernewtyn, the secret community of Misfits has flourished. Protected by their remoteness, Elspeth Gordie and her allies have worked hard to develop their forbidden mental abilities—all in preparation for their inevitable confrontation with the totalitarian Council. And though their training is far from complete, the Misfits can no longer stay hidden when they learn of the existence of a new Talent—one whose power may eclipse anything they have seen before.
Ashling: The Obernewtyn Chronicles 3by Isobelle Carmody
As head of Obernewtyn’s Farseeker guild, Elspeth Gordie must travel to the lowlands to seal an alliance between Obernewtyn and the rebel forces that oppose the totalitarian Council. Yet her dreams call to her with an altogether different purpose: Elspeth must destroy what remains of the weapons that brought unimaginable chaos, death, and mutation to her world. Leaving the relative safety of the mountains, Elspeth embarks on a journey that takes her across the sea and into the heart of the mysterious desert region of Sador.
The Keeping Place: The Obernewtyn Chronicles 4by Isobelle Carmody
When a Misfit is kidnapped, Elspeth finds she has little choice but to join the growing rebellion against the Council. Her extraordinary mental powers could tip the scales of the struggle, but Elspeth feels torn between toppling the corrupt authoritarian regime and seeking clues vital to a more personal quest—her ambition to destroy what remains of the Beforetime weaponmachines.
Wavesong: The Obernewtyn Chronicles 5by Isobelle Carmody
With the end of the wintertime that isolates Obernewtyn from the rest of the world, Farseeker guildmistress Elspeth Gordie again sets out for the lowlands. But she soon finds that not everyone welcomes the changes brought about by the rebellion. There is a traitor among the rebels—a traitor whose hatred of Misfits puts Elspeth in danger as she attempts to thwart an invasion of fanatical Herders.
The Stone Key: The Obernewtyn Chronicles 6by Isobelle Carmody
Friend becomes foe and trust is a thing of the past when the Misfits’ most relentless enemy turns Elspeth’s world upside down. Through coercion and mind control, Ariel stands on the cusp of his ultimate revenge—and it falls to Elspeth to rescue a former ally whose mind and body have been manipulated to unleash a plague that will destroy all it touches.
So yes, I bought the rest of the series. I have already started book 2 (Sorry, Michael Scott! Your The Alchemyst book is on hold at the moment! It's nothing personal. :))
The High King's Tomb: Green Rider Book 3by Kristen Britain
Karigan G'ladheon was hoping for a break from adventure after the breakneck escapades of First Rider's Call (2004), but this action-packed third Green Rider volume gives her no time to rest. Sent on what she thinks is a mundane errand for the king of Sacoridia and the captain of the royal messenger corps known as the Green Riders, Karigan begins having strange dreams that may hold hidden meaning. Then she receives a cryptic message from the ghost of a would-be magician. Karigan finally accepts that she's destined for the extraordinary when the magnificent black horse Salvistar, the steed of the god of death, beckons her to ride with him among the stars. Britain keeps the excitement high from beginning to end, balancing epic magical battles with the humor and camaraderie of Karigan and her fellow riders.
I loved the first book and I have been waiting forever for this third one to come out! Now I have it! Woohoo!
The Kingdom Keepers: Disney After Darkby Ridley Pearson
In this fantastical thriller, five young teens tapped as models for theme park " guides" find themselves pitted against Disney villains and witches that threaten both the future of Walt Disney World and the stability of the world outside its walls. Using a cutting-edge technology called DHI--which stands for both Disney Host Interactive and Daylight Hologram Imaging--Finn Whitman, an Orlando teen, and four other kids are transformed into hologram projections that guide guests through the park. The new technology turns out, however, to have unexpected effects that are both thrilling and scary. Soon Finn finds himself transported in his DHI form into the Magic Kingdom at night. Is it real? Is he dreaming? Finn's confusion only increases when he encounters Wayne, an elderly Imagineer who tells him that the park is in grave danger. Led by the scheming witch, Maleficent, a mysterious group of characters called the Overtakers is plotting to destroy Disney's beloved realm, and maybe more. This gripping high-tech tale will thrill every kid who has ever dreamed of sneaking into Walt Disney World after hours and wondered what happens at night, when the park is closed.
Yay! Disney World! Do I really need to say anything more? I think I discovered this series on Brooke's blog?
And my two books from last week that were special ordered came in and I'm already reading one (see sidebar). That's the only one not pictured though. I'm tired.
Cape Storm: Weather Wardens Book 8by Rachel Caine
Weather Warden Joanne Baldwin and her new husband, the Djinn David, are running from a malevolent hurricane bent on destroying her. Joined by an army of fellow Wardens and Djinn onboard a hijacked luxury liner, Joanne has lured the storm into furious pursuit. But even their combined magic may not be enough to stop itanor the power-mad ex-Weather Warden controlling it...
The other book I got was Stacia Kane's Demon Inside. I am about halfway through at the time of this post (Friday night...) but I am too hot and tired to make any more graphics tonight! Mental note: Next time I buy a house it will have central a/c!!
If you'd like to see what other sort of fun stuff I have spent my money on this week, you can head on over to my main blog and check out this post, and this one and this one. ;)
