Personal Demons
Personal Demonsby Stacia KaneI read this book right after I had finished The Devil Inside and considering my reaction to that book you can imagine how wary I was of starting this one. But I had bought it and I was going to read it, darnitall! Now as far as book covers go, this book is the one I thought was going to be filled with gratuitous sex scenes and mindless fluff. (And yes, I believe I have already established my horrid habit of judging books by their covers!) I was contentedly surprised to find that my perceptions were quite wrong!Megan is an online psychologist whose show's slogan promises that "she will slay your personal demons". The only problem is that the Personal Demons take this seriously and start to come after her. Suddenly she's a hot commodity for demons everywhere and she finds herself under the protection of Greyson Dante a seductive powerful demon and three cockney demon bodyguards as well as a couple of other unlikely and awkward allies.Personal Demons was a fast-paced, humourous story with interesting characters - I loved the cockney demon guards, they were obviously the comic relief of the story and it worked. I sort of wished I had them around for my own protection, though perhaps not as on top of things as they were with Megan. I'm partial to taking showers without an audience. But, hey, to each their own, right?[Completely unrelated, but I just had to mention how difficult it is to write a blog post when there are shad-flies trying to crawl all over your computer screen. Thought you might like to know.]So, Stacia Kane surprised and impressed me with this story and therefore I look forward to the second book which is supposed to arrive sometime in 2009 (January, I think). It was fun to read and the plot was captivating enough to make me forget about the constant underlying sexual tension which kept popping up. Though in this book you weren't bashed over the head with it. It just happened and I was able to accept it.Coincidentally, the author has some posts on her blog about writing sex scenes in fiction. Ha. She does however bring up important points like, "do you really need a sex scene?" To which I would say NO, but a lot of authors (especially in Urban Fantasy I find) think otherwise and just toss 'em in there all willy-nilly. But enough about that (I really am not THAT much of a prude! A little risque passage once in a while does not bother me!) I'm going to make sure I stick all my rants in one tidy little post for your enjoyment!Megan Chase series
