Pray for Dawn
Pray for Dawn (Dark Days #4)by Jocelynn DrakeMy father bought me this book. He then gave it to me to read first, though I know he's dying to continue the series I got him hooked on. I love my Daddy. So for that reason I started reading it as soon as I was done the book I was in the middle of so that I could finish it and give it to him.I have been adoring this series. The books read more like epic fantasy than your average Urban Fantasy novel. I was thrilled to find out that books 4 & 5 were releasing one month apart. The problem? I didn't exactly like this book. I didn't know it would be told from an alternate point of view. The first three books are told from Mira's point of view. She's the Fire Starter. She's the vampire, she's interesting and I like her. I do not like Danaus, the half-bori, Hunter guy that alternates between trying to kill her and sleep with her. I do not like him.Yet, he's the narrator for this fourth book.I do not feel like anything that was established in books one through three was remotely present in this story. There was no forward momentum to the overlaying arc of the story. It was all about Danaus and his power and how he can't stop getting caught up in Mira's lavender eyes. Gak.The characters that I have grown to know and enjoy from the first three books? They seemed like total strangers in this one. Danaus seemed out of character, Mira seemed extremely out of character. The secondary characters that are generally around Mira were distant if in the story at all. I didn't enjoy the feel or flow of this story one bit. It's sort of as if the series went off on a bit of a tangent to solve a mystery in a small town (hell, Scooby Gang!) and deviated from the main arc. Is it just me? Am I the only one who thinks this way? I am so disappointed. :(I get the idea behind the story. I think it's an interesting take to view what was going on from another of the main character's points of view, but I think it is very odd to have the entire feel of the story switch four books in. Having Danaus as the POV to me would have worked in a "companion novel" (man I hate that term, but for lack of a better one I am using it). I don't know if this works for me in this series and I am sort of concerned about the fifth book. Will I have Mira back? I miss Mira. I love Mira. The back of the book doesn't even hint that the voice of the story would be different. If it did, maybe I am just blind and didn't catch on.Sadly this book read more like paranormal romance for me than the epic fantasy feelings I have been getting. My dad also gave me a gift card so I could by (us) the fifth book this month and I will and I will read it through. I am just hoping I get Mira back. I think the fifth book is the final book? I hope it resolves everything that's been building up in the first three books because sadly, this book didn't. :( I am still eagerly awaiting it's release though and will be checking the store online every day while on vacation these next 2 weeks to see if I can get my hands on it as soon as possible!!And a side note - I do not particularly care for this cover. I have liked them so far, but the shirtless Danaus? He's never even described as wandering around shirtless. It's sort of like a cheesy romance cover. I would have preferred him to have slightly more chesty coverage, thank you very much.Dark Days Series
