Queste
Queste (Septimus Heap, #4)by Angie Sage
There's trouble at the Castle, and it's all because Merrin Meredith has returned with Darke plans for Septimus. More trouble awaits Septimus and Jenna in the form of Tertius Fume, the ghost of the very first Chief Hermetic Scribe, who is determined to send Septimus on a deadly Queste. But Septimus and Jenna have other plans—they are headed for the mysterious House of Foryx, a place where all Time meets and the place where they fervently hope they will be able to find Nicko and Snorri, who were trapped back in time in physik. But how will Septimus escape the Queste? (goodreads.com)
For those of you who have never heard of the Septimus Heap series, let me give you a rundown - Septimus is the 7th son of a 7th son, who was stolen on the night he was born. The Heap family is a large, scattered sort of eccentric family who could give the Wesley family in Harry Potter a run for their money. Septimus ends up apprenticed to ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand and many, wacky adventures and dangers ensue throughout the series. (Ok, so this is a very small and vague summary of the first three books... just read them!)Sadly, my attempt to read Queste has taken me a while. I believe I started it sometime in 2009 and then my attention was diverted and again, and again. I know I tried to read it again last summer and I still only got one hundred or so pages in and stopped. It wasn't that I didn't like the book, it was just that I never seemed to be in the mood for the kind of wacky, magykal shenanigans that took place in the series. I told myself I would pick up this book and FINISH it during my week off and success! Then I discovered that I never wrote about the first three books on this blog. Oh, well. I have them, I read them and I do enjoy the series!Oddly, one of my most favourite things about this series is the Thing which was created by Darke magyk by Merrin. The Thing wasn't as used much in Queste as it was in the previous book, but it makes me laugh. I wish it was around more often.I'm not really sure what to say about the series except that it's a fun, light (not too darke) fantasy with wizards and dragons and princesses and scribes. I remember saying to my husband when I read the first book that it was a happier sort of Harry Potter book but with no muggles or any real life aspects. It is pure fantasy and it's a great middle grade series with very long books. It's not hard to follow and understand even with all the characters. Now that I have finally finished with book 4 I am eager once more to pick up the next books in the series, however, I think I shall wait until the 6th book, Darke comes out in paperback, since I believe it was just released this year. That way I'll have two books to read and not have to wait for the next. ;)I even love the look of these books, as though they are all old tombs with locks and bindings. So enchanting!!Septimus Heap
