Rebel Fay
Rebel Fayby Barb & J.C HendeeI do not really remember how I came across this series, but I have been following it since the first book, Dhampir came out in mass market in 2003. Rebel Fay marks the 5th book in the Noble Dead series. Leesil travels to the land of his people (the Elves) in search of his mother (he has been searching for his mother since book one, but the group keeps getting sidetracked with other quests and problems). Along with his lover, the half-dhampir Magiere, the sage Wynn and the large wolf (Magi-hay) Chap, they break elvish rules by entering the forest which is only to be inhabited by Elves themselves.Oh, that's just a dreadful summary, but the book wasn't much better. I should have given up on this series ages ago, but I always think that perhaps the books will start to get better, like the first one was. Neither character seems to have progressed in any way. I find their attitudes and petty ways grating and static. After all this time in their quests you'd think they would be better flushed out, but they still refuse to compromise with each other and still look down on young Wynn after all the help she has provided during the journeys.I used to find Chap entertaining and his back story interesting, though the authors lost my attention long ago, to the point that when we finally find out more about him in this story I really couldn't care less.I do not know if I will pick up the next book when it comes out in paper back. If I am desperate enough for something to read I might, though I don't want to because I think the story was over for me by book three.
