Sisters of Misery

Sisters of Miseryby Megan Kelley HallI. Loved. This. Book.I knew after reading reviews on other sites that I need to read this book. And yet, I just couldn't get it anywhere. I posted of my misery in obtaining, Misery. Fate must have been smiling on me that day because as I was writing about my misery I was contacted by the author herself. Megan Kelley Hall was kind enough to end my misery by sending me a signed copy of the book. In exchange, I shall be proclaiming my love for this book from the rooftops! And having a 5 Questions session with the author! If you're in Canada, you'll have trouble finding this book in a store. Heck, even Amazon.ca says it'll ship the book in 5 to 8 weeks! Horrendous! Chapters.Indigo.ca claims the book is in stock and will ship within 24 hours, however none of their stores in the Montreal area actually have it on the shelves. I am telling you Canadian readers that you need to go to your local bookstores and ask them to order this book! It's worth it.Well-written, highly suspenseful and slightly creepy, Sisters of Misery tells the tale of Maddie Crane a 15-year old girl who has lived in Hawthorn, MA for almost all her life. Her mother made sure she had the right friends and went to the right places. So for most of her life Maddie's circle of friends were the popular mean girls who were also part of the Sisters of Misery - a sort of secret society for the girls of Hawthorn. When Maddie's Aunt Rebecca and her daughter Cordelia have to move back into the old Victorian house owned by their grandmother Tess, Maddie finds she has to choose between her long-time, so-called "friends and her free-spirited and eccentric Californian cousin, Cordelia.Thing is, you don't cross the Sisters of Misery, and people from Hawthorn do not like people who are different. You especially don't cross the Endicotts, and Kate Endicott is the leader of the Sisters and has it out for the new arrival. When Cordelia goes missing on Halloween night after a scary Sisters of Misery initiation, Maddie finds she's the only one who suspects fowl play, or that Cordelia didn't just run away because the girls had broken her. But Maddie's attempt to find out more about Cordelia's disappearance is threatened at every step. What happened that night? Is Maddie next?I read this book almost cover-to-cover in one night. I had about three chapters read before I took it to bed with me on a day I had almost been up 24 hours. I thought I might read another couple of chapters before I fell fast asleep, since I had been trying to stay awake most of the day at work. However, I just could not put the book down once I started. My "couple of chapters" turned into "just one more" and then next thing I knew the book was done and I was about one hour away from having been awake 24 hours! (Thank goodness the next day was a Saturday!)I had to write this review as soon as I finished the book (ok, so the next morning because I really needed to sleep!) though I am only posting it when I have my 5 Questions post with the author ready to go. However, I will also cross it off my RIP III challenge list. I am happy to say it fit nicely with that challenge as I found this book scary in parts and I had to make sure all my closets were closed before I could sleep.
