sophie settles
It is quite amazing how quickly this new little dog has settled into to our lives. She's so exited to see us when we come downstairs in the morning and when we get home in the evening. Some of this might just be her delight at being let out of her crate, but mostly, there's is love. She flings herself back and forth between Shawn and I constantly and includes Jinx by bounding all over him. She reminds us of those Loony Tunes dogs, the large bull dog and the little thing that jumps all over him. Or the bull dog with the kitten who sleeps on him all the time. She loves Shawn. She loves me. She loves Jinx.Jinx isn't so sure what he thinks of Sophie yet. ;) He's still highly offended by everything she does. Even though he's decided to claim selective memory and not remember how he did the exact same thing to Annie at the same age. After a desperate email to my friend Linda on how to curb Sophie's singing through the night, we've had quiet nights after the second time she tried howling all night. She starts to fuss at 7:24 in the mornings though. We just ignore her at that point until the alarm goes off at either 7:30 or 8:00 (depending on when I need to get into the office). We did both alternate getting up around 7:30 on the weekends to let her out and then put her back in the crate with her breakfast while we slept some more. She doesn't like that very much though. Once she's awake she just wants to GO! GO! GO!For a tiny little 27lbs thing, she's certainly heavy on her feet. Jinx can move from one floor to the next to another room and you'd never know he was there or left. Sophie on the other hand sounds like a heard of elephants just walking from one end of the living room to the other. Dear lord is she heavy when she walks. And when she flings herself into your face nose first to give you love. She doesn't lick, she does nose-to-nose kisses. I think it's sweet, except when she's very happy to see you and she decides a bite to the nose would be more loving.Trust me, we're working to train that nipping thing out of her. I don't particularly like being nipped in the bum when she wants attention. Ow.I still have to write about the Michigan road trip itself, other than the food poisoning, but I just haven't had time between work and having a new puppy around. However there is this one photo from my phone that I snapped on the trip home that just makes me so happy. Jinx and Sophie traveled VERY well together.
For only having met less than 30 hours before and for being a timid dog with new people and other dogs, Sophie took to us and Jinx very fast and very strongly. I am so thankful for that!
I love her skunk tail. I just hope it doesn't attract any amorous male French skunks that might be in the neighbourhood. We have had enough trouble with skunks since we started living here. Her legs aren't nearly as long as Jinx's either. Maybe that's why she's so darned heavy-footed!
Jinx and Sophie do enjoy playing with Shawn on the deck though. They were helping him bar-b-q - not as good as Annie used to be, but Sophie IS still young. ;)
And for fun, in case you haven't seen my facebook flip-book photo album of Jinx and Sophie on the couch, here are two examples from that photo session.
As you can see Jinx is just thrilled to be sharing the couch with Sophie. She's blurry because she didn't stop moving ONCE.
Sophie, of course, thinks playing on the couch with Jinx is just the best game EVER!!
Jinx will come around of course. He does try to play with her but her attention span shifts every 10-15 seconds so as soon as he starts to get ready to play back she's off in another part of the room playing with something else. Jinx is highly confused by this and ends up just coming to lie next to me on the couch. heh
