Suddenly Supernatural Book 3
Suddenly Supernatural: Unhappy Mediumby Elizabeth Cody KimmelWell most of you know how in love I am with both Book 1 and Book 2 of this series. I can assure you that I was not let down one bit with this third instalment of Kat's supernatural adventures. I was however slightly worried at the beginning about how the story was going to play out, but the author once more dealt with the issues a 13-year old can face without getting all in your face about it.In Book 3, Kat joins Jac and her mum on a trip to a lodge in the mountains where Jac will be part of a young musicians conference. The only way Jac would go is if her mother let Kat come along. Jac claimed she wasn't there because of her cello playing - which she adamantly insisted she was no longer going to play - but because she was tyring to get a long better with her mother. When Jac meets a cute young boy who is part of the conference, she appears to abandon her best friend for this boy. Meanwhile, Kat is dealing with the spirit of a departed medium whom she has found in her room and a much more dangerous and dark entity which appears to be causing Jac's mother to take ill.I admit that I was very nervous about the Kat and Jac "friendship in danger due to a boy" scenario. I almost didn't want to read more because I thought this original series was about to take a very unoriginal turn. However, Kimmel did not let me down and handled the sub-story very well. At the same time it was nice to see Kat off on her own trying to solve the mysteries that were popping up. It was also a nice opportunity to meet some new characters from around the lodge.I have been constantly impressed with how Kat is written with intelligence and is not shy to ask for help from an adult. Not wanting to worry her mother, Kat phones Orin (from Book 2) with questions when she figures she's in over her head and possibly in danger. One of the most refreshing things about these books are how the kids aren't seen as the only smart ones in the world. You know that it's ok to ask for help, even when you think you might be able to handle things on your own. Kat knows when it's time to turn to someone else.I hope Elizabeth Cody Kimmel writes more in this series as it's such a fun read with really likable characters.Click here to read my 5 Questions with Elizabeth Cody Kimmel!Suddenly Supernatural Series
