Tempest's Legacy

Tempest's Legacy (Jane True, #3)by Nicole Peeler

After a peaceful hiatus at home in Rockabill, Jane True thinks that her worst problem is that she still throws like a girl - at least while throwing fireballs. Her peace of mind ends, however, when Anyan arrives one night with terrible news . . . news that will rock Jane's world to its very core. After demanding to help investigate a series of gruesome attacks on females -- supernatural, halfling, and human -- Jane quickly finds herself forced to confront her darkest nightmares as well as her deepest desires. And she's not sure which she finds more frightening. You know how I keep saying I want to play Jane True in the movie? Well, I was rethinking that while reading this book. There is just way too much sex/nudity for me to be able to play her. I pretty much stand in a locker in the locker room to change after the gym. It's not that there is too much sex in the stories for me, it's more that I realized that what sex there is - and nudity from the swimming, etc, is a little too out of my league so as much as I resemble Jane in many other ways. I am too much of a nun to play her in the movie. DAMMIT!I love Jane. I love that she's realistic in this series and as she learns what's going on around her she has to adapt and it's not always easy. I love that she's confident yet hesitant. I love her sense of sarcastic humour. I think she's a great addition to the urban fantasy world in her jeans and t-shirts.I also really like Anyan so I was thrilled when he was the main male focus of the story. I can't stand Ryu one bit and I hate that every second sentance to Jane he calls her "Baby". All. The. Time. It. Drives. Me. MAD.There's a pretty emotional discovery in this story, that although I was sort of expecting to happen down the road, was surprised it happened so fast and it didn't happen the way I thought it would. I felt very bad for Jane and could almost feel the shock and pain she was suffering. I also like that Nicole Peeler added this plot twist to the story early on in the series so that it wasn't always hanging over our heads in the "What if" categoryThis wasn't my favourite of the three books in the series. I felt like it was more of a bridging the gap story between the second book and what's to come. Sadly the story line, though original and new, just felt a little flat to me. It was nice to meet new characters and all, but I wasn't as captivated by the plot as I have been. This in no way will deter my continuation of the series, because I 100% adore the series. It's different than all urban fantasy out there and I love that about it.My only big problem with this book? The infinite repetition of the word "libido". I swear it was on every single page in that 344 page book. I am curious and I ask Nicole - did you do a word count for the number of times libido is used? I would be highly intrigued to know that answer! *grin* I sort of felt that Jane's libido piped up at the stupidest times, she's almost killed and she's all "I wanna tap Anyan's doggy ass, yo!" Yeah, that didn't work for me.I personally just hate sex in books when it's just for the sake of having a sex scene. Nicole, thankfully, doesn't smear the pages of the Jane True series with explicit scenes! The problem is I cringe each time a character in the book seems to only have sex on their mind regardless of what the heck is going on. I know many people don't mind this sort of thing in books and I am a huge prude, but I can't see how I could be focused on someone behind, or how their lips would feel on various parts of my body while I am possibly about to die a horrible death in a shootout! Gah! What is wrong with people?!That being said - so sayeth NunCat - I love everything else about this series! ;)Jane True series
