when you know the notes to sing, you can sing most anything, yo!

the hills are alive, yo! I had convinced myself that I didn't like it. I had fooled myself into believing I wouldn't watch it. Just the fun songs, I said. I had it on in the background as I was wrapping Chelsea's Christmas gifts. But I do. I admit it. I love The Sound of Music. I hadn't seen it in years. YEARS. I was sure that I didn't like it anymore. Which is odd since I darn near wore out the movie soundtrack record when I was a kid. Yes a record. Actual vinyl people. I used to play the record on my little stereo at full blast and sing at the top of my lungs as I danced around my room and pretended I was Frauline Maria. I wanted to be in The Sound of Music. I wanted to be in a musical - any musical! (and I am glad that I never got that chance, because musicals just aren't classy and fun anymore. Take From Justin to Kelly, for example. Take it out to pasture and SHOOT IT!)So, this musical was on TV last night and although I missed the beginning (which I have on good authority is a very good place to start!) and all the abbey stuff, I got to watch Maria find a frog in her pocket and hear all the great songs I knew so well. I stayed up until 11 to watch the end. I saw more in this movie than I ever had. I never realized a lot of what was going on. I just had in my head it to be a happy musical of a family escaping the Nazis. But I never knew why, or noticed that Rolf was like, this Nazi guy. I was a kid, ok? I didn't see that sort of stuff, I never even looked for that sort of stuff. That's what's great about innocence. So I saw a whole new aspect to this movie last night which I don't know if I like or not. I'm still only going to remember the songs and the dancing. And how I wanted to be Lesiel (spelling?) and dance in the gazibo with Rolf (before I knew he was a traitor!). How I longed when I was a kid to be sixteen-going-on-seventeen. I have now added this film to my wishlist at amazon.ca. ha!@@@@@@This afternoon we're on our way to my parents' place for Christmas Number One. Due to their having to leave for BC the day after Christmas we're celebrating early. This is pretty neat because we're going to end up with three spaced out Christmases because Shawn's parents are away next weekend, too. So this is the first year in a long time we don't have to be three places on one day. Yay! So today is Christmas Number One. Next weekend is Number Two (just me, Shawn and the dogs) and then the weekend after that is Number Three (inlaws)@@@@@@I was going to write more this morning, but I spent too much time chatting with a few friends on msn and now have run out of time. Have to get some stuff done before I head over to my parents' place. Happy Sunday, all!
