BBAW - Reading Meme
Day three of Book Blogger Appreciation Week! And normally I don't like memes (or even the WORD meme), but this one had some cool questions! So here you go!_____________________________________________________________Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?Sometimes. I prefer popcorn. Not too messy and easy to eat one-handed.Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?GAH! Nooooo! I had a hard enough time writing (highlighting) in school textbooks. It felt like such a horrible sin!How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?GAH!!! USE BOOKMARKS!! In fact, I go so far as to match the bookmark to the book I am reading - either by theme or colour. Yes, I am pathetic.Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?Fiction. I very rarely like non-fiction. There are a couple of psychology-type memoirs I have about various mental illnesses that I liked, but other than that? Non-fiction bores me.Hard copy or audiobooks?Hard copy. I don't think I have ever listened to an audio book. The thought of them turns me off.Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?End of chapter pretty much 99% of the time. Only way I'll stop in the middle is if I happen to fall asleep. ;)If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? No. I think, "Ooo, I'll have to look that up" and then completely forget and the next time I come across it I still don't really know what it means. Bad me!What are you currently reading?I have 3 books going 1) High King's Tomb by Kristin Britain (which I have waited for FOREVER!) 2) Gluten-Free Girl - by, um, the Gluten-Free Girl (Shauna something) (and YES I know this is non-fiction, but I am trying to go gluten-free and IT IS BLOODY HARD!) and 3) Unbound - anthology of short Urban Fantasy stories by awesome authors - this one is my bathtub book. What is the last book you bought?I just bought 4 books from The Book Depository (Oh my God! Awesome!): UK versions of Graceling & Fire by Kristin Cashore and 2 YA Kate Forsyth books that I can't get here in Canada - The Gypsy Crown and The Puzzle Ring. I love Kate Forsyth and I am sad that many of her non-fantasy books can't be found in North America. Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time?Obviously I am reading a couple of books at a time, but really it's only because I can't seem to focus on anything for very long these days due to health and work stress. But normally I am a one-book-at-a-time girl!Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read?Either in bed before I go to sleep or curled up on my couch with one of my dogs beside me during the day.Do you prefer series books or stand alone books?Tough one. I like both equally, though I love a good series because then you always know you have a book to look forward too!Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?Depends on the genre - for Fantasy I always recommend David & Leigh Eddings, and now I add Maria V. Snyder to that list. And for YA I recommend L.J. Smith, only for a while her books weren't available, I am happy they are being re-released. And for Urban Fantasy - KIM HARRISON! Because she's my literary goddess. (Sarah McLachlan in my musical goddess. :))How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?)Genre, author's last name and series order. I have a YA shelf, a Fantasy/Urban Fantasy shelf, a mystery shelf... and well, I need more shelves since the rest of my 600+ books are in boxes. :)________________________________________________________________Well, there you have it! A little something about me and my book habits! Can't wait to read other answers during BBAW!
