Beyond Books on inkpop
Have you heard of inkpop? I hadn't really heard of it much before this past weekend. I'd seen the logo around but to be honest I hadn't looked into it much further than that. I was contacted by inkpop over the weekend and asked if I'd like to partner with them and after I looked into what inkpop actually is I couldn't say no.Are you an aspiring writer? Do you write teen fiction? Do you want a place to hang out, upload your work and get real-live and helpful critiques? Well, then inkpop is for you.The even cooler thing about inkpop is that it is owned and run by Harper Collins and they have their authors judge the books in the writing challenges and offer advice and I think this is an amazing social media step for publishing! There are Weekly Writing Contests and more - and the more time I spent browsing the site the more I was impressed with HC for creating this program/website.The latest news to come from the inkpop blog is this - Leigh Fallon, an aspiring YA author, just had her novel, The Carrier of the Mark, picked up by Harper Teen to be published in Fall 2011! Leigh's story is so exciting to hear about because it gives other people hope for their own writing. You can watch the video below to listen to Leigh talk about her dream coming true through inkpop!
I am NOT an aspiring author, nor do I have any plans to be. I am honestly partnering with inkpop to get the word out there that this forum exists for those who want to write Teen fiction and want a place where they can be heard.
I hope to be able to keep up with reminding my readers of the Weekly Writing Contests over on inkpop - I was looking at the prizes for the last contest and holy cow! They are amazing! ($2000 H&M/MAC shopping spree & Flip Camcorder!) You may see some of my Harper Collins book reviews over on inkpop as well. This gives me a mental note to pay more attention to imprints when I buy my books. I used to be so good at that! Alas it has been way too long since I worked in a bookstore and that knowledge has escaped me.
I suppose I should put up a little disclaimer - I do not partner/affiliate with anything normally. The only reason I agreed to promote and partner with inkpop is because I truly think it's an amazing step in the publishing industry. I like everything about inkpop that I researched and I am super proud of Harper Collins for starting this forum. This oes NOT mean that I will gush about any and all Harper Collins books I might read and blog about. I haven't ever tapered my posts before even if it was a review book, so I am not about to start now. If I do not like something I will tell you.
I can't be bought. My husband complains about this all the time. He said my morals and standards are too high. Heh. Even if you offered me a million dollars for something I would never do - I will not take that money and do it. I just can't. I couldn't live with myself after. Therefore, this post and my new relationship with inkpop is 100% because I think it is awesome and helpful to people.
I urge you to check it out if you want to. Who knows, those of you who want to write YA might have a chance at getting that book deal you always wanted. (Now if only someone had a form for those of us who are aspiring singer/songwriters, I'd so join that...)
