Curse the Dawn

Curse the Dawn : A Cassie Palmer Novelby Karen ChanceLast July, I read the first three Cassie Palmer books by Karen Chance. I didn't get into the first book as much as I did the following two, so although I was eager to read Curse the Dawn when I realized it was out, I didn't know what to expect.I laughed. Laughed! This book had wickedly funny dialogue and funny moments. It's sort of like a Cassie and Pritkin Buddy-Cop story (ok, minus the cop part). Because the Silver Circle (a groups of unfriendly War Mages) is trying to kill Cassie (someone always is, really) she and Pritkin are on the run.  I'm not entirely sure how to summarize this book without giving things away, so much happened in the story. Cassie has a body guard, Marco, who was assigned to her by Mircea, Master Vampire to make sure she stays safe (she doesn't), there are hilarious scenes with Francoise, the French witch (?) from the 1800s (and I adore that character! Adore her!), we meet some great Drag performers (Dee Licious, Dee Vine and Dee Sire) who also crack me up... AND Cassie and Pritkin end up in each other's body due to a mischievous old Japanese deity after Casssie makes a wish to help out a particularly troublesome situation.Like the other books, Curse the Dawn is non-stop action. In fact I had to re-read  a few parts toward the end because I was getting lost. I have a habit of skimming paragraphs as I read, and I don't do it on purpose. It's part of the reading issues I have, I'll be focused on each sentence and the suddenly I'll be confused only to realize that I glazed over for a paragraph or two. I have to refocus my eyes and start over. Frustrating when something is ALWAYS happening. Helpful for books where there are long lulls. heh. There was so much going on that the ending came as a surprise to me! I had forgotten about one plot point and when it was resolved I was both shocked and sad to find out the result. (But it fits with the story!)I am very happy I picked this book up and that it was one I was able to read in a decent amount of time, even with my current reading woes. I can't wait for more!Cassandra Palmer series
