Darklight

Darklight (Wondrous Strange, #2)by Lesley Livingston

Much has changed since autumn, when Kelley Winslow learned she was a Faerie princess, fell in love with changeling guard Sonny Flannery, and saved the mortal realm from the ravages of the Wild Hunt. Now Kelley is stuck in New York City, rehearsing Romeo and Juliet and missing Sonny more with every stage kiss, while Sonny has been forced back to the Otherworld and into a deadly game of cat and mouse with the remaining Hunters and Queen Mabh herself. When a terrifying encounter sends Kelley tumbling into the Otherworld, her reunion with Sonny is joyful but destined to be cut short. An ancient, hidden magick is stirring, and a dangerous new enemy is willing to risk everything to claim that power. Caught in a web of Faerie deception and shifting allegiances, Kelley and Sonny must tread carefully, for each next step could topple a kingdom . . . or tear them apart. (goodreads.com)

I know, I know, it has taken me forever to procure and read this book. I am ashamed to say that it took me this long to get it. But I got it with my Christmas money with the idea that if I loved it I would use birthday money later this month to buy the third book. And guess what? I will be buying the third book later this month!I re-read my review of Wondrous Strange as I was setting up this post and it made me recall that I didn't like Sonny. Funny, I didn't have that thought at all this book. I was a little scared about how I would enjoy Darklight because I thought it started off a little slow, but by about half way through the story I couldn't put it down. It was my hope that I would be able to get it finished before midnight on December 31, but that didn't happen. Sadly all the painting I was doing in the bedroom took up way more time than I thought it would and... well, I had a nap. A three hour nap. I was exhausted from 3 days of painting and I knew I wanted to stay up until midnight to watch the ball drop.So I finished this book on January 1st. I'd like to take my enjoyment of the novel as a good sign of awesome reading to come this year.I am curious as to who the Big Bad is in the next book. Something is up with Auberon and someone seems to be after... Kelley? The Green Man magick? Something. I am actually quite invested in this mystery! One other little thing about this book that isn't really about the story - the author is Canadian. Yay! I am always extra excited when I know the author is a fellow Canadian, but I never thought to keep track of this on my blog to refer back to at a later date. It wasn't until I was reading Court's recap of 2010 on her blog that I thought, hmmm, she keeps track of Canadian authors read, why can't I? Therefore I have tagged this post with "Canadian Author" and I will try my best to remember to do the same for other Canadian author books!I enjoy this series, it's fun and fast paced and I rather like the characters. I can't wait until after January 23rd to get me my next book!Wondrous Strange series
