Looks like June is my month of lame summaries on goodreads for the books I am reading. What is up with that??So, I didn't much care for the murder mystery in the last book, Fantasy in Death and normally that's a fluke, but I was one again blah'd by the murder mystery in an Eve Dallas novel. I am hoping that these two books are just anomalies because the run's been pretty good until now. I don't know what to think. There was something off about Indulgence in Death and I think it was a lack of side characters on top of the mystery being boring. What I love the most about this series is the dialogue and character development, so when it's sort of tossed in there haphazardly, I am disappointed.Has the In Death series jumped the shark you think? I don't know. I worry that Nora Roberts puts out too many books in a year both romance and mystery. I don't feel that the series has suffered much from longevity until now, but I find the characters sort of stale and stuck in a rut. What's left? Eve and Roark have dealt with marriage, friendships, friends with babies and so on and right now, it's just... stalled. What's next for them other than having offspring of their own? I think that would ruin the books for me. I do think that the next books need to be more focused on the core group of friends, maybe another Mavis-related mystery, or a McNab one? Something that pulls the group together for more than a off-sided hint that they will have a group gathering on a weekend.I miss the characters a lot. The old Peabody was much more interesting than the current one, only I think that's only because she's not as involved in the story lines as she used to be. Did the cast get too large? I don't think so, the same people are around but I think Roberts tries too hard to include all of them in the same story now rather than just randomly smattered through the series. As for the murder mystery - I had it figured out pretty early on in the game and I predicted that once again Eve would be bait. I am sort of tired of that plot line. Yes, I get it, she's a super detective and in the spotlight so baddies are more likely to target her, but come on.I am happy that I always wait for the books to publish in mass market format because waiting a year between books helps me forget the parts I didn't like and I am more eager to pick up the next one. I know that I haven't enjoyed all of the books the same, but two blah's in a row worries me.What do you guys think? In Death Series
