Morganville Vampires Book 5 : Lord of Misrule
Lord of Misrule : The Morganville Vampires Book 5by Rachel CaineOh, Lordy. So I bought this book back in the middle of February and it's taken me this long to complete it. Why? Because I really did not like it one bit. For the first time in this entire series I just wanted to smack all the characters upside the head and tell them to get over themselves. Especially Claire. Oh my gosh did I hate Claire in this book. A lot. If there was one more conversation about how young she seemed where she retorted "I'm almost seventeen!" I would have tossed the book across the room. Luckily it didn't happen. Also, I disliked the addition of a new character named Hannah. I outright hated this character and the way she was written. And it dawned on me when I woke up from the nap I took after finishing this book yesterday that she sort of just disappeared at one point and I don't quite remember what happened to her.So, in Lord of Misrule there's about to be a war between the vampires and for fun, the humans are deciding to rally together and fight both vampire factions because they have had enough. Think revolution. And Claire and her friends are running through the town hiding and trying to save people, because that's what they do. Then just when I was thinking, ok, maybe the big action part isn't so bad - the book ends! ENDS!I am tired of cliff hangers - especially when it takes so long to get to anything exciting and then it cuts off. And at the same time I was like, what is going on here?Gah! I don't know what went wrong in this book for me. Others seem to have enjoyed it and I really, truly liked the first four books - hence my buying of the fifth! But I didn't care for this book one bit. Reading it seemed like chore and I honestly do not know if I will be getting the next book, Carpe Corpus or not (although I really like the cover. And um, someone on amazon.ca tagged this book as "faeries". Seems off to me, no?)Can anyone out there please remind me either in comments or by email what the heck happened to Hannah? It's bothering me now and I don't want to have to go through the last quarter of the book just to find out. :)I am still a huge fan of Rachel Caine's Weather Warden series, and perhaps I will stick with that one only from now on. I am so tired of vampires at this point anyhow. Why can't people write about witches again? I like sorceresses and sorcerers and witches and wizards. I miss them in fantasy/urban fantasy writing. *sniff*
