oh, and i forgot, we're having our driveway & street dug up

The extreme joys of owning your own home and living in a city or town that decides to do what it wants when it wants knows no bounds. This is true of any city or town really, unless you're the one who runs it. I need to work on owning my own city or even better, universe. So, on Wednesday when we got home from work, we were greeted by a bright orange wooden stick sticking out of our driveway/walkway. There was also bright orange spray paint on our lawn, driveway and the other driveways on our street. We seemed to be the only ones who had their asphalt and cement broken to hold up a stick. A stick that said "EAU", which for those of you who do  not speak French (for which the Province of Quebec shuns you) it means "WATER".Our patio stone walkway was broken up.The city was kind enough to toss pieces of the cement on to our lawn of course. I guess so we could what? Glue it back together?See how nice they were?Do you think we had any notice about the destruction to our property? Was there maybe a note in our mailbox letting us know what happened while we were out at work? Hell no.Although yesterday, Saturday the TENTH of APRIL, we got an envelope in our mailbox. This letter was dated April 1st and was all in French (you know, because you're not allowed to speak anything else in this Province) and pretty much what it said was this "if you were planning on doing any landscaping or repaving your driveway this summer, don't. We'll be digging up your street, driveway and yard from MAY TO OCTOBER to work on the aqueducts."Since this little stick was halfway up our driveway and in line with our big ol' tree, I have a few questions about this.1) Where the hell will we park if our street and driveway is being dug up for 6 months.2) Are they cutting down our tree?3) If yes to the tree cutting, don't they have to ask our permission?4) How long will be be living on little to no water? Since they are doing this for the water mains.I have no idea. I did email the city on Wednesday night and never heard from them. I figured I wouldn't get a reply because I wrote to them in English and I doubt anyone there would understand it.Either way, we are not happy about this. Ok, so they warned us, but only after they already dug up our walkway. Also, who pays for the repaving and rep-sodding of the lawn? And if they cut down my tree, do they give me a new one?And I am beyond thrilled to have construction right outside my front windows (and bedroom) all summer. Because THAT will be fun. I'll bet they start with the heavy machinery REALLY early in the mornings.Sometimes I hate the world. This is one of those time.
