will work for food

Good heavens. I love my dogs. I do. I mean, look at them -

Are they not lovable-looking? They sure are! And they are quite lovable personality-wise as well. But damn if they don't cost an arm and a leg and a tail once a year.

One trip to the vet on Saturday and WHAM - we're $375 poorer. It hits you like a brick. In fact, we were almost $550 poorer until I asked "Um, do you have BOTH sets of pills on this bill? Because we're only getting ONE set." Sure enough, they forgot to edit the bill. Heartworm pills are pricey, my friends. With a capital HOLY CRAP THAT'S A LOT OF MONEY.

And Jinx went up 2 pounds from last year bringing him to 50lbs -and do you know where the cut-off is for these pills? At 50 pounds. (However it kept going between 50.00 and 49.5o.. so..) Annie went down a couple of pounds and is a lovely 45 pounds now. This of course means TWO DIFFERENT WEIGHT CLASSES OF PILLS. And the more weight the more money. Last year we bought one package and split it between the two and then just went back for the second set of pills in August. I had wanted to do that this year, but noooo Jinx was 50lbs. We argued - he was fluctuating! And the vet said "Well, can you promise he won't gain weight, because the pills won't work against fleas if he does." We promised. Heck, both dogs are on diet rations and Jinx hasn't even been eating lately (he gets like this during season changes. Wuss.) So we ended up - thankfully - with only the one package.

But Annie also needed her heartworm test and rabies shots this year. Jinx is on alternating years with her. A pretty penny I tell you. (And for that matter - WHY is that an expression? Because I can darn well tell you that it is NOT pretty when you have to dish out all that cash! Stupid expression if you ask me.)

So once my heart started beating again, and they fixed my vet bill to a more expected number, we paid and got the heck out of there. We have to go back in 3 weeks to have blood tests done for Annie. She's 11 and well.. she has lumps. One for sure - that's actually gotten smaller in the last 6 months, but just to be safe we're doing a blood panel.

Aside from Jinx and his whiny ass while out in public around other dogs, both my pups are excellent at the vet. Sure they pant and casually try to sit closer and closer to the exit, but they are really easy to examine and draw blood from. Such good dogs I have. Here they are in the examination room waiting for the vet to come check them out!

I still think they need jobs though. That vet bill pretty much wiped out any and all extra cash we have until the next pay day - and it was only 2 days after the FIRST payday. And really, I don't think it should be called payday so much as paymoment because it might be in the account at midnight, but it's pretty much gone by the time we wake up. Sigh. Who needs groceries anyhow, right? As long as the dogs have food - that isn't US - we're good! I could stand to lose a few pounds anyhow. Been trying and it's not been working so well, so I think if I cut out the eating part, I might have better luck.

Right?
