What the heck is happening to the English language these days? Yes, I have seen people blog about this, rant about this, talk about this. But really. I am so tired of acronyms for everything and the lack of punctuation and the random capitalizations - or complete lack thereof!What are people being taught in school? When I see "The Young People" of today writing on facebook or twitter or even their own blogs I have to reread almost everything to make sure I'm reading it correctly.I'm not perfect when it comes to my native tongue. I a miserable at spelling and as Miriam always said, I have a comma fetish (I like commas! What can I say?) and I'm not the best master of grammar but I try. I really do try.People do not try anymore!This all started before text messaging became so popular and to be honest the few times I did send a text message I'll have you know I spent about 15 minutes making sure that those 120 characters were properly spelled and punctuated! I hate all those chat speak, acronymmy "words". I like punctuation (and commas! And parenthesis, too apparently!) I like proper capitalized words!Yes, I'll make up my own words (see: acronymmy, above) but they are full words and not just letters that mean multiple words. And yes, my original alias online was IWAT (Innocent With a Twist), but that was a nickname!LOL, ROTFLOL, BRB, BTW, they are all overused right now. Those are even the less irritating ones. They don't even have NUMBERS in them.It's not just young people anymore using these stupid things. Adults are misspelling words all over the place. "You're" vs "Your". "There" vs "Their". OMG! (Look! Another one!) I know school wasn't fun. Hell, I hated almost every second of it, but I still retained general English rules. People are so sloppy in their writing these days. No one seems to care a whit about whether or not something is spelled correctly or properly capitalized.Used to be writing like that was poetic license. Used to be writing like that would get you a big ol' "F MINUS" in school. Nowadays? You're not even allowed to fail kids in school because it might hurt their feelings.WHAT THE F---??I am so sick of seeing friends' Facebook statuses (stati?) updated with improper spelling and crappy grammar. It's not just The Young People doing this. Good lord, even my ownfather uses LOL to reply to people online now! I am tired of having people reply to me in acronym form rather than write out what they are saying. Sure, I'll use BRB while using MSN with my friends, but not all the time.Also, my friends and I use proper spelling and grammar while chatting instant messagly. (See? Another made up word, but I don't care!) We text each other using letters to form words and not numbers or single letters (R U getting this?)Why even go to school if no one is going to care about how they write?I am so over this "Internet Language". Used to be that Internet Language was stuff like HTML and CSS and PHP code. Now it's just a massacre of the English Language which is getting worse and worse each day. (Hello? Sarah McLachlan and your "U Want Me 2" song? Yeah, enough out of you now.)(And yes, I did use spell check on this post before I posted it. Why? Because I suck at spelling and typing and I CARE about what I am about to post on the internet for all to see!)
