Kindred in Death
Kindred in Death (An Eve Dallas Novel)by J.D. Robb
When the newly promoted captain of the NYPSD and his wife return a day early from their vacation, they were looking forward to spending time with their bright and vivacious sixteen-year-old daughter who had stayed behind. Not even their worst nightmares could have prepared them for the crime scene that awaited them instead. Brutally murdered in her bedroom, Deena’s body showed signs of trauma that horrified even the toughest of cops; including our own Lieutenant Eve Dallas, who was specifically requested by the captain to investigate. When the evidence starts to pile up, Dallas and her team think they are about to arrest their perpetrator; little do they know yet that someone has gone to great lengths to tease and taunt them by using a variety of identities. Overconfidence can lead to careless mistakes. But for Dallas, one mistake might be all she needs to bring justice. (goodreads.com)
I was very happy to walk into my bookstore last week and see this new paper back JD Robb on the shelves! It was just what I needed to cheer me up. Because who doesn't get cheered up by the brutal rape and murder of a 16-year old, right? Yeah, well, the murder mystery in this story was one of the more intense in the series, but there was still the fantastic character interaction that I love in every book. There was freaking out over wedding prep by Eve Dallas and the fear of babies (which I have as well). There was great Eve and Roarke interaction - and very little sex scenes! One of the things I adore in this series is the continuity. How people and events from previous books can pop up during the current story arc. This one had reference to a few of the other books in the series and though I didn't remember all of them I still love how everything can pull together and make a new story. There hasn't been enough Summerset for my liking though. He's been sadly absent from the last few books I have read. I generally enjoy the insults and duels between Eve and Summerset, but he's been away and used less frequently in the books. So has Mavis for that matter.ARGH! I had an entire paragraph here where I raved about this series and told you all to go out and start reading it and then WordPress went and hung on me while I was trying to post and the page went blank and when I got back to the draft it was MISSING. Which is how it is going to look in your blog feeds probably. And this has been happening too often and I am too ticked off to rewrite it. So there. I'm done. GRR!In Death Series
